National competitions
 
There are currently 4 competitions in Europe:  
 
The Netherlands
 
A national competition for high school students has been organised by the company Innovative Solutions in Space (ISIS) and the Technical University of Delft every year since 2007. For the 2010 edition, 38 teams participated in the semi-final later this year. The best 18 projects were launched on 17 September from DARE rockets at the final stage, which took place at t’Harde military camp.

Spain
 
An international competition was organised by the student association LEEM, with the support of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) in April 2008, which was repeated this year. The participants are university students and the launch platforms used are rockets and a captive balloon. For the second edition that took place on 8-11 April 2010 in Madrid, there were 20 teams participating from many different countries such as Spain, Malaysia, France, Iran, Turkey, Colombia, England and Italy.

France
 
A national competition for university students was established in August 2008 by the French Space Agency (CNES) and the educational institution Planète Sciences. In the first and second edition there were 4 teams participating. The launches are made from a captive balloon. This 2010 competition took take place in Biscarosse on 23-25 August with 8 trams participating.

Norway
 
With the support of the Norwegian Space Centre, the Norwegian Centre for Space-related Education (NAROM) initiated in May 2009 an annual national competition for high school students. The CanSats are launched from a rocket at Andøya Rocket Range in Norway (ARR).
Last year's competition included four high schools (some with local competitions) where a total of 23 students attended the launch campaign at ARR. In 2010 there were 5 schools involved (some with local competitions) with a total of six teams participating in the launch campaign on 26-29 April.
