Opportunity for European students to attend NASA Academy 2010

ESA is sponsoring two students from ESA Member and Cooperating States to attend the 2010 NASA Academy. The application deadline is 31 January 2010.
Through the International Space Education Board (ISEB), established by NASA, ESA, CNES, JAXA and CSA, ESA is able to offer two European students the opportunity to take part in the prestigious NASA Academy.
The NASA Academy is a ten-week, intensive summer research programme conducted in different NASA centres. Designed for undergraduate and graduate students interested in aerospace engineering and space sciences, it enables them to participate in NASA-led research projects while also developing leadership and networking skills.
How to Apply
The application process for European students wishing to attend the NASA Academy at Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) has now opened. Students interested in this opportunity should:
- Choose 3 to 5 projects they would be interested in pursuing. The list of projects can be found online (see link on the right-hand side). Additional projects have been made available recently to international students, these can be found under "Suplementary projects".
- Complete the ESA Student Application Form and prepare all Additional Application Materials (specified within the form) in Word or PDF format.
- Write a cover letter outlining why they would be interested in participating in the NASA Academy and why they believe ESA should consider them for sponsorship.
- Submit all the documents in (2) to the Student Participation Programme in a single email no later than midnight (CET) on 31 January 2010.
Eligibility Criteria
In order to be considered for selection all applicants to this programme must:
- be aged between 18 and 28 at the time of the academy
- be a national of an ESA Member State or Cooperating State*
- be enrolled as a full-time student in a university located in an ESA Member State or Cooperating State at the time of submitting the application
- currently be a final year undergraduate student (and entering their first year as a graduate student in autumn 2010) or a first year graduate student (ie. Master/PhD student entering their second year in autumn 2010) with a major in engineering, science (physics, astronomy, chemistry, biology, earth science, etc), math, computer science or other area of interest to the aerospace program.
- have achieved a minimum of 3.2 GPA on a scale of 4.0 (or equivalent)
- ideally have completed a prior space-related internship or research assignment.
* ESA Member States at beginning of 2010: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
Cooperating States: Canada, Estonia, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovenia.
