Exercise 1: Inspection of true colour RGB composites


Start LEOWorks and open the two true colour images, tm_03sept1988_band321.tif and etm_30july2010_band321.tif

Study the images.
 
 

1. Which glacier lakes still have direct contact with glaciers? Which don’t?

Use the zoom to see the images better.

2. How many pixels is the image in width and height?

3. How large is one pixel?

4. How many kilometres is the image in width and height?

Now we can measure the length of a large glacier by using the Measure Tool. Select metres as the Measurement unit. Note that you can add different line segments to a total distance, so that you can follow the central line of a glacier.
