Meteosat Second Generation
Introduction

The weather plays a major role in all aspects of European daily life. Widespread use is made of images from weather satellites, and these are widely displayed throughout the media. The study of current weather images brings a new dimension to teaching and learning about meteorology in the classroom.

The aim of this section is to stimulate students and teachers to look at the meteorology images and find out everything they can about the weather in the region they live in. Schools are invited to work with this data using the suggestions given in the projects. The case studies provided should be used as guidance and inspiration. You will find both still and moving Meteosat sequences, providing a spectacular demonstration of day-to-day and seasonal weather.

One of the case studies provided focuses on the Asian Summer Monsoon, which plays a decisive role in the life of millions. Manual and software-assisted exercises bring the Monsoon floods right into your classroom.
