Exercise 3: Find low pressure systems

Synoptic weather map
Synoptic weather map

Very often, one or more low pressure systems or cyclones cross Europe. These systems often dominate local weather.

Try to pinpoint the centre of these cyclones and the accompanying frontal system with the warm front and the cold front.

1. Draw the frontal systems on the printout. Remember that the fronts divide relatively cold and warm air masses.

2. How do the fronts correspond to the temperature boundaries you drew earlier?

3. Compare the wind pattern and the temperatures around the frontal system.

4. Compare your interpretation with a weather map. You can find a current weather map at http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/dwdana.html
