The International Space Station allows astronauts to live and work in space. Free from the force of gravity, they are always seen floating in the space station.
ESA’s Columbus laboratory, launched in 2008, is now permanently attached to the Station allowing scientists from all over the world to carry out long-term research projects to understand how gravity influences the human body, different types of materials, plant and animal life.
