Launch update
 
The next launch from Europe’s Spaceport, originally scheduled for 24 March, has been postponed to allow for certain additional checks to be performed on the launch vehicle. The Ariane 5 ECA of flight V194 will carry the Astra 3B telecommunications satellite and the COMSATBw-2 secure military relay platform into geostationary transfer orbits.

18 February 2010   On 4 February in Turin, Italy, Thales Alenia Space Italy and its main industrial partners presented to ESA the new Intermediate eXperimental Vehicle (IXV) design baseline, a key milestone in the start of the full development phase of the IXV, due to make its first flight three years from now.

High-thrust engine demonstrator industrial day
 
15 February 2010   Earlier this month, the German Aerospace Center, DLR, in its test centre at Lampoldshausen, hosted the annual high-thrust engine demonstrator (HTE Demo) industry day. Delegations from ESA Member States, propulsion industry managers and representatives from ESA’s Launcher Directorate reviewed the achievements, business opportunities and objectives of the demonstrator for the European future first stage propulsion, developed within ESA’s Future Launchers Preparatory Programme.
