Ophir Chasma, part of Valles Marineris

27 September 2004

Ophir Chasma
Download:
HI-RES JPEG (Size: 329 kb)  HI RES TIFF (Size: 755 kb)
This image, taken by the High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) on board ESA’s Mars Express spacecraft, shows the Ophir Chasma, a northern part of the Valles Marineris canyon.

The image was taken during orbit 334 in April 2004 with a ground resolution of approximately 36 metres per pixel. The displayed region is located at about longitude 288° East and latitude 4° South. This colour image was processed using the nadir and colour channels of the HRSC.

Ophir Chasma - perspective view 01
Download:
HI-RES JPEG (Size: 733 kb)  HI RES TIFF (Size: 12 379 kb)
This image, taken by the High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) on board ESA’s Mars Express spacecraft, shows a section of the Ophir Chasma, a northern part of the Valles Marineris canyon.

This perspective view was calculated from the digital terrain model derived from the stereo channels. It shows a view looking west across the slopes of collapsed material at the northern end of the valley, with the scarp on the right.

HI-RES JPEG (Size: 694 kb)  HI RES TIFF (Size: 10 921 kb)
This image, taken by the High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) on board ESA’s Mars Express spacecraft, shows a section of the Ophir Chasma, a northern part of the Valles Marineris canyon.

This perspective view was calculated from the digital terrain model derived from the stereo channels. It shows a view looking north-east, from the southern end of the Chasma, showing the Candor Chaos region in the foreground.

HI-RES JPEG (Size: 635 kb)  HI RES TIFF (Size: 11 888 kb)
This image, taken by the High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) on board ESA’s Mars Express spacecraft, shows a section of the Ophir Chasma, a northern part of the Valles Marineris canyon.

This close-up perspective view was calculated from the digital terrain model derived from the stereo channels. It shows a view looking north towards the 5000-metre high northern scarp with its piles of collapsed material, seen at the top of the image. The smooth, rounded Baetis Mensa ridge can be seen on the left.
