From the aquatic ecosystem concept to the European Regenerative Life Support System: the MELiSSA loop.
MELiSSA is an assembly of several processes (mechanical grinding, bioreactors, membrane filtration, wet oxidation, etc.) aiming at a total conversion of organic wastes and CO2 to oxygen, water and food products.
Waste products and air pollutants are processed using the natural metabolism of plants which in return provide food, oxygen for air revitalization and contribute to water purification.
