Apollo 11 commander Neil Armstrong gained the distinction of being the first man to land a craft on the Moon and the first man to step on its surface.

Apollo 11 Command Module Pilot Michael Collins orbited the Moon while Armstrong and Aldrin performed the first manned lunar landing. He is one of only 24 people to have flown to the Moon.

Apollo 11 Lunar Module Pilot Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin joined Neil Armstrong in completing a two-hour 15-minute lunar EVA on 20 July 1969, becoming the first humans to walk on the lunar surface.
