When Alexei Leonov became the first man to venture out of his spacecraft, he needed more than piloting skills. He needed resourcefulness and nerves of steel. A generation later, these qualities can still be found in Thomas Reiter, who spent 50 times longer in orbit and 70 times longer in open space.
