ESA's European Space Incubator
ESA's incubator assists inventors to turn their ideas into viable businesses
Incubation

Through its European Space Incubator (ESI) initiative, the ESA Technology Transfer and Promotion Office is providing entrepreneurs increasing opportunities to create their own start-up companies to offer new services or applications emerging from the creative use of space technologies and/or systems in non-space sectors.

To bridge the gap between idea and actual business, ESI and its associated network, ESINET, are designed to get space to non-space projects off the ground and help them develop into viable businesses. ESI is located in ESTEC, the Agency’s technical centre in Noordwijk, The Netherlands. ESI provides operational services and know-how in a state-of-the-art technical environment to selected start-up companies. As part of the deal, the start-ups can avail themselves of such facilities as office space and shared facilities; provision of 'hands-on' assistance and business/marketing development support; access to finance; access to engineering support and expertise from ESA experts; and access to international markets and partners through ESINET.

ESI is the central hub of the European Space Incubators NETwork (ESINET) which links together nearly 40 national and regional incubators within Europe and Canada. ESINET facilitates the exchange of best practices and experiences with other incubators operating in the field of space. It can also provide start-up trans-national partnership opportunities to incubators and help incubated start-up companies gain increased visibility at a European level, which attracts interest from greater numbers of potential investors. Through ESINET, ESI incubatees gain access to international markets, opportunities for cross-fertilization and access to greater sources of funding.

Full details on how to become an 'incubatee' within ESI, the application and selection criteria and procedures, and submitting applications can be found on the ESI website.
