ESA astronaut Thomas Reiter exercizing the PDA in ISS

"In the Russian segment there is no chance to hear the sound as long as the PDA is further than 30 cm from the ear, but that's expected. In the US segment it can be heard when holding it in the "normal" position in front of the lap. However, during a real depressurization all ventilation would be shut down, and it would be much quieter up here.", Thomas said on December 6th, 2006 while exercizing the PDA Depressurisation Program application on his PDA.
