Vibroacoustic Analysis of Antennas

The Structures Section is also the focal point in ESA for vibroacoustic analysis for mission support and technology developments. This load case is the sizing one for the structures of solid reflectors like the ones used for telecommunications missions. The vibroacoustic analysis capabilities deployed include low-frequency detailed response analysis with FEM/BEM techniques, as well as high-frequency Statistical Energy Analysis. Software tools such as Va-One, Postar and Astryd are available. The tasks performed include test prediction and correlation of antenna structures and random vibration environment prediction for whole spacecraft. Activity examples include antenna reflectors strength analysis in support to programmes.

In Fig. 10 the case of the Sentinel 1 Antenna is represented, showing the vibro-acoustic analysis performed for the SAR antenna panel. The prediction allowed early vibro-acoustic environment predictions for equipment qualification and risk mitigation exercises prior to the panels and full antenna tests.
