Hubble gets revitalised in new servicing mission

15-Feb-2002 After nearly 12 years of incredible scientific discoveries, the ESA/NASA Hubble Space Telescope orbiting Earth is about to have another service visit. The purpose is to upgrade Hubble systems and to install newer and more powerful instruments that will astoundingly increase Hubble’s discovery capabilities and extend the longevity of the observatory.

Release of the Hubble Space Telescope from the Shuttle's robot arm on 25 april 1990.The picture was taken only a few seconds after the release by a camera mounted in the cargo bay of the orbiter Discovery. HST is a joint NASA/ESA project with ESA providing the Faint Object Camera and the solar array system.
