138th Ariane launched successfully

The 138th Ariane launch (V.138) took place successfully on Tuesday 19 December 2000 at 09:26 p.m. Kourou time (00:26 a.m. GMT - 01:26 a.m. CET Wednesday 20 December 2000).
 
The Ariane 508 launcher lifted off from the Guiana Space Centre - the European Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana, and placed into orbit the ASTRA 2D and GE-8/Aurora III telecommunications satellites for GE Americom, USA, and the experimental payload LDREX for the Japanese Space Agency, NASDA.  
 
The next Ariane-4 launch (V.137) originally scheduled for December 2000 will take place at the beginning of January; a date is still to be confirmed. It will place into orbit the telecommunications satellite Euriasiasat 1. It will be followed by an Ariane-4 launch (V.139) currently scheduled for Wednesday 7 February 2001 which will place into orbit the telecommunications satellites SICRAL and SKYNET 4F.
