Rosetta se acerca al planeta Tierra

Esta espectacular imagen de nuestro planeta fue tomada esta mañana por el instrumento OSIRIS a bordo del ‘cazador’ de cometas de la ESA, la sonda Rosetta, mientras el satélite se acerca a la Tierra para realizar la tercera y última maniobra de asistencia gravitatoria. El máximo acercamiento está previsto para las 08:45 CET del 13 de Noviembre de 2009. Puedes seguir de cerca a Rosetta en la página dedicada a Rosetta de la ESA y a través del Blog de Rosetta.
 
El instrumento OSIRIS (Optical, Spectroscopic, and Infrared Remote Imaging System) está compuesto por una cámara de gran angular y por una cámara de campo estrecho para obtener imágenes de alta resolución del núcleo del cometa y de los asteroides que visitará Rosetta en su viaje hacia el cometa 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. OSIRIS le permitirá a Rosetta identificar los mejores lugares para el aterrizaje de la sonda ‘Philae’.

Rosetta también está investigando un misterio cósmico: una anomalía en el campo gravitatorio que ha tenido en vilo a los científicos durante dos décadas.
