Artificial island arises off Dubai   These two SAR images of the coastline of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates were acquired by ERS-2 on 20 May 1999 and Envisat on 21 April 2003. The latter image shows the Palm Jumeirah development under construction.   Artist's impression of an aerial view of the Palm Jumeirah after completion. Altogether the artificial island - like its twin, the Palm Jebal Ali - will stretch some 16 km out to sea. Completion of the project is planned for 2007.   Workers constructing the Palm Jumeirah.
