International Encyclopaedia of Laws: Intergovernmental Organisations

13 July 2005
The monograph on ESA in the International Encyclopaedia of Laws: Intergovernmental Organisations has recently been updated to reflect the many changes that have taken place at ESA since the Encyclopaedia was first published in 1996.

The International Encyclopaedia of Laws: Intergovernmental Organisations, is edited by Prof. Dr Wouters and contains information on 20 intergovernmental organisations, including ESA. Written by the best experts in the field, the Encyclopaedia offers valuable and practical inside information and is frequently updated.

Mr Lafferranderie, former ESA Legal Advisor, now Chairman of the European Centre for Space Law, was responsible for updating the entry on ESA, written by him in 1996. It contains valuable information about the agency ranging from its genesis and historic development, through to its institutional framework and finances, to international relations and space law, staff policy and access to space. The monograph also contains information on ESA’s relationship with the European Union.

A number of important events that have taken place since 1996 are dealt with in the monograph. These include:

  • review of programmes, their progress, financial coverage and participation
  • review of ESA’s delegate bodies, executive and membership
  • review of international relations with other nations and international organisations
  • relationship between ESA and the European Union and European Commission

Copies of the Encyclopaedia, published by Kluwer Law International, can be ordered from: sales@kluwerlaw.com.
