Europe's Node 3 - dubbed Tranquility - handed over to NASA
Handover ceremony paves the way for launch of final European ISS modules
 
21 November 2009   Twelve years of design, development and hard work have come to fruition with the formal handover of Node 3 from ESA to NASA on 20 November 2009. The ceremony took place in the Space Station Processing Facility at NASA's Kennedy Space Center, Florida, USA.

20 November 2009   ESA PR 29-2009. The site of a ground station for Galileo, Europe's global navigation satellite system, inside the Guiana Space Centre (CSG), near Kourou in French Guiana, was inaugurated on 19 November.

SMOS satellite instrument comes alive
 
19 November 2009   The MIRAS instrument on ESA's SMOS satellite, launched earlier this month, has been switched on and is operating normally. MIRAS will map soil moisture and ocean salinity to improve our understanding of the role these two key variables play in regulating Earth’s water cycle.
