Space Lab science competition winners announced!

Spanish high school students Laura Calvo and María Vilas’ experiment to study surfactants in microgravity was chosen as one of the six finalists of the YouTube Space Lab student science competition!
This international science competition challenged students aged 14-16 and 17-18 to design an experiment that could be conducted in microgravity on the ISS. Over 150 000 YouTube users worldwide helped determine the six regional winners by voting for their favourite experiment.
The finalists in the 14 to 16-year-old category are students from New Zealand, Spain, and the U.S. Those in the 17 to 18-year-old category are from India, Egypt, and the U.S.
These six regional winners will visit Washington DC in March for a series of events to honour their achievement. These events will include a zero-g parabolic flight, a Lenovo IdeaPad laptop, a tour and dinner at the Udvar-Hazy Air & Space Museum, and an awards ceremony at the innovative interactive Newseum museum on 22 March.
At the awards ceremony, the two global winners – one selected from each of the two age groups – will be announced. Their experiments will be performed later this year 400 km above Earth on the International Space Station and live-streamed on YouTube! Good luck to all!
