Swarm Mission Advisory Group - membership application now open

4 June 2007
As the Earth Explorer Swarm mission progresses into Phase C/D of its development, ESA is inviting scientists who wish to apply for membership of the Swarm Mission Advisory Group (MAG) covering Phase C/D and E1 to do so via the Mission Advisory Group Application website.

Applications must be submitted by 31 August 2007 (noon CET).

Swarm is a constellation of three satellites that will provide high-precision and high-resolution measurements of the strength and direction of the magnetic field. GPS receivers, an accelerometer and an electric-field instrument will provide supplementary information for studying interactions between the magnetic field and other physical quantities describing the Earth system. The geomagnetic-field models resulting from the Swarm mission will provide new insights into the Earth's interior, further our understanding of processes in the atmosphere, and will also have practical applications in many different areas such as space weather and radiation hazards.

The MAG is integral to furthering the development and implementation of the mission, and will advise the Agency on issues relating to Swarm system activities, scientific studies and campaigns.

The first Swarm Phase C/D MAG meeting will take place on 24-26 September 2007 at ESA-ESTEC in the Netherlands.

More information about how to apply for membership of the Swarm MAG can be found via the Mission Advisory Group Application website.
