ESA calls for EarthCARE Mission Advisory Group members

14 November 2011
ESA’s cloud, aerosol and radiation mission, EarthCARE, is about to enter its Detailed Definition Phase (Phase C). As part of this development process, ESA has released a call for Mission Advisory Group members for the mission.

Applications can be made via the following website: http://missionadvice.esa.int.

Please note that the deadline for submission is 7 December
(12:00 CET).

Scheduled for launch in 2015, EarthCARE will advance our understanding of the role that clouds and aerosols play in reflecting incident solar radiation back into space and trapping infrared radiation emitted from Earth’s surface.

These observations are much-need to improve climate predictions and weather forecasts.

EarthCARE – the largest and most complex Earth Explorer mission to date – is being developed as a joint venture between ESA and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, JAXA.

The EarthCARE Mission Advisory Group is co-convened with JAXA, which appoints Japanese scientists as members of the group. This call is only relevant for applications for the members appointed by ESA.

In general, the role of the Mission Advisory Group is to provide technical advice to ESA during the development and implementation of the mission. For more information about the Mission Advisory Group application procedure please visit the website noted above and which is also linked from the right-hand bar.
