Aircraft used during the CEFLES2 campaign for taking measurements for the candidate FLEX mission. The Piper Seneca III (right), from IBIMET, carries an instrument called AirFLEX for taking fluorescence measurements and a thermal camera. The Sky Arrow ERA (Environmental Research Aircraft) (left) is capable of performing surface-flux measurements through airborne eddy covariance.

 HI-RES JPEG (Size: 1830 kb)
The main aim of the FLEX concept is to make global observations of photosynthesis through the measurement of chlorophyll-fluorescence. The concept employs a very high-spectral resolution imaging spectrometer. FLEX, along with five other candidate missions, is currently undergoing assessment.
