Avionics and onboard autonomy

Foreseen robotic missions to Mars will require high level of autonomy due to both the large distances between Mars and the Earth leading to communication shifts and the mission requirements that imply the surface and orbit operations to be as much autonomous as possible. Avionics is highly critical in those processes and have to comply with the harsh space environment.
