1981: On 30 October 1981, the Soviet Union launched Venera 13.

Venera returned photos and data from Venus until March 1983. Also aboard were two high energy science instruments researching gamma ray bursts. A total of 44, mostly confirmed, cosmic gamma-ray events were detected between November 1981 and March 1982 by the two instruments.
