This video, taken on 23 June, shows the Herschel spacecraft on an electrodynamic shaker, undergoing vibration tests at ESA’s European Space Research and Technology Centre, ESTEC.

These tests are carried out to ensure that the spacecraft can withstand the vibration loads that it will encounter during launch. The spacecraft is seen being shaken along its longitudinal axis (the X-axis) at frequencies starting from 4 Hertz, increasing to 100 Hertz over a period of about 80 seconds.

On 5 and 6 June 2008, the Herschel spacecraft successfully passed its acoustic tests. During the tests, the spacecraft was subjected to acoustic noise, generated to simulate the noise levels during launch, at the European Space Research and Technology Centre’s Large European Acoustic Facility (LEAF).
