On Thursday 3 October 1640 Rome time, Italian ESA astronaut Luca Parmitano will talk from orbit on the International Space Station with the Italian President Giorgio Napolitano at the Palazzo del Quirinale in Rome.
Luca Parmitano launched as a Flight Engineer with the ISS Expedition 36 crew on 29 May. As well as carrying out a busy science programme in the Columbus laboratory, he has been extremely busy with unloading of the ATV-4 cargo vehicle that arrived in June. He carried out a highly successful spacewalk on 9 July.
On his second spacewalk on 16 July, just over an hour into the sortie, Luca reported water floating in his helmet and NASA Mission Control decided to end the spacewalk early. He will remain on ISS through Expedition 37, returning to Earth sometime on 11 November.
At Palazzo del Quirinale, the Italian President will be joined by ASI President Enrico Saggese and Volker Liebig, ESA’s Director of Earth Observation and Head of its ESRIN establishment inItaly.
