On 28 October 2002, the Belgian ESA astronaut Frank De Winne will lift off for an 11-day space mission to visit the International Space Station. The mission is called Odissea and has been sponsored by the Belgian government and this programme provides an overview of Frank De Winne's training, his professional background and the Soyuz crew members.
The programme comprises of a 5-minute A-roll with split track and English commentary and is complemented by a B-Roll with clean international sound.SCRIPT

Welcome to Star City. HEre in the Gagarin cosmonaut training center near Moscow, astrounaut Frank De Winne has been training since August 2001, in preparation of the Odissea mission. De Winne was appointed as a testpilot for the Belgian airforce in 1992. Six years later, ESA selected him to be an astronaut. He actually joined the European Astronaut Corps in January 2000.

During NATO-operation Allied Force, Frank De Winne was the detachment commander of the Deployable Air Task Force. He is a much repected pilot who has logged over 2300 flying hours.

The Odissea -mission is a co-operation between Russia, Belgium and the European Space Agency. However, the operational language in the Soyuz spacecraft that will take the astronauts to the International Space Station, is Russian. De Winne had to take daily classes, and he has managed to pass his exams without the help of an interpereter.
