Current crew of the orbital outpost is Expedition 28: Commander Andrey Borisenko (from right in front row) and Flight Engineers Alexander Samokutyaev, Mike Fossum, Satoshi Furukawa (from the left in back row, Ron Garan and Sergei Volkov. Expedition 28 Expedition 28 began after the Soyuz TMA-20, carrying also ESA astronaut Paolo Nespoli, left the Station on 23 May 2011. The crew of Soyuz TMA-21 crew remained aboard and welcomed three new crew members on 9 June 2011 on the Soyuz TMA-02M.

Commander Andrey Borisenko Russian Andrey Borisenko is the Expedition 28 commander and was an Expedition 27 flight engineer. He was selected as a cosmonaut candidate in May 2003.

Flight Engineer Alexander Samokutyaev Russian Alexander Samokutyaev is a Expeditions 27 and 28 flight engineer, who was selected as a cosmonaut candidate in 2003. Flight Engineer Sergei Volkov Commander of Expedition 17, cosmonaut Sergei Volkov serves now as flight engineer for Expeditions 28 and 29. Flight Engineer Michael E. Fossum NASA Astronaut Mike Fossum serves as flight engineer for Expedition 28 and as commander for Expedition 29.
