ACT on Mission Analysis and Design

The future of space exploration and utilisation will be characterised by missions with increasing ambitious goals. In order to achieve these goals, it is often more efficient to explore new directions in the way a mission is conceived, rather than to force the upgrade of an already existing technology.

The aim of the Advanced Concepts Team in this area is to explore research avenues which promise to enhance the capabilities of future space missions and to inspire new methodologies in mission analysis and design. Innovative concepts, software tools, mathematical theories and numerical methods are being proposed, studied and developed, taking account of the latest advances in space and non-space research, and through a constant collaboration and exchange of ideas with the European Academia. It is expected that this research activity will not only assist the development of planned science and exploration missions in the coming years, but will also be a source of inspiration for new ways of conceiving and designing space missions in the future.
