Ongoing Projects
The mission analysis activities of the Advanced Concepts Team currently deal with the following topics. On a separate page you will find projects that have been completed in the past.

Low-energy Inter-moon Transfers via Resonant Gravity Assists

Patched three-body model is investigated to design multiple “resonant-hopping” gravity assists. Invariant manifolds and resonant gravity assists are employed to construct low energy transfers between moons in the Jovian system.

Formation Flying in Astrodynamics

Multiple spacecraft in formation yield significant benefits compared to single spacecraft including a reduction of the size and weight of the spacecraft with its consequent savings in launch costs, and the possibility of a fast replacement and redundancy in case of vehicle failure.

PyKEP

Written in C++ and exposed to Python using the boost python library, this user friendly, open source pyhon module aims to contain most efficient implementations of astrodynamical techniques. Multiple revolution Lambert's solver, Taylor integartion and low-thrust legs are all part of PyKEP.

Low-thrust Parallel Global Optimization

The possibility to perform global optimization, and thus automated design, directly on complex low thrust trajectory is demonstarted for the first time developing a new, ad hoc methodology joining cutting edge results from aerospace engineering, operation reserach and computer science.

The Space Game

Using modern html5 technologies and thus completely run on your browser, this interplanetary trajectory crowdsourcing experiment lets the user plan several multiple gravity assist trajectories. Find your way through the solar system .... (play)
