Space Transportation Seminar

To New Frontiers

30 March 2009 In order to help prepare the future of space transportation vehicles by 2030 and far beyond, ESA and CNES have initiated a seminar co-organized by the AAAF and Prospective 2100.

Seminar

This seminar, taking place from the 26-28 May 2009 near Paris, will draw on innovative concepts, projects and technologies far away from the ideas currently put forward. Thematic editions were held between 2001-2005 and outlined technology trends and propulsion concepts for the future.

The objective is to go far beyond in terms of:

  • Long term and mostly innovative missions and applications;
  • Adaptative technologies spanning all sectors and types of scenarios.
The underlying objective is therefore to collect potential ideas about promising technologies for the future, and to evolve a flexible method to initiate dedicated investigations for selected perspectives. Furthermore, the following two aspects should be emphasized during the seminar:
  • How do people (including those external to space field) envisage the next 50 years, especially from the young generation point of view?
  • Which selection type procedure should be settled to distinguish potential breakthrough ideas from unrealistic ones?

Questionnaires

In order to initiate discussions about advanced space exploration, we have put on-line two questionnaires aimed at young adults, whether they have a technical interest in Space or not. With the input from these, we will assess the different opinions and try to establish the vision of the younger generation.

The first questionnaire is aimed at non-experts from the general public.
Click here to see the General Questionnaire.

The second is more for those who are interested in the technical and scientific details.

The most interesting points will be used as a basis for further discussion, managed with a mailing list on the following site:
