Vibrating systems in general relativity

Vibrating systems can have an interesting behaviour in general relativity. In this project simple systems with time dependent constraints are considered. We study the deviation of these vibrating systems from a free fall trajectory.

Coordinate Transforming Metamaterials

Methods from general relativity have been proven to be successful in designing novel types of metamaterials. As one of our current activities we try to extend and assess those methods.

Non-Linear Effects in Weak Gravitation

In gravitationally bound systems (such as the Solar System or galaxies) dynamics usually are calculated using Newtonian approximation unless the gravitational forces are strong. But in certain cases this might lead to wrong results.

Optimal Light Distribution in Solar Cells

Losses in solar cells can be reduced by a covering glass with specific optical properties that leads the light into regions of high efficiency. In this short study the potential of this method is assessed.

Observability of Complex Networks

An interdisciplinary project led by artificial intelligence. How can the thermal observability of a spacecraft be guaranteed? Where does one have to place thermal sensors such that the thermal state of the spacecraft always can be estimated?

Deployment and Stabilisation of Large Structures in Space

In this project we investigated possibilities to use electromagnetic interactions to deploy and control large structures in space.

Influence of Cosmic Expansion on Solar System Dynamics

Recent experiments confirmed that the cosmos undergoes an accelerated expansion. Could this expansion have a measurable influence on the dynamics within the solar system?

Non-Issues

Faster-than-light communications? Warp drives? Vacuum energy propulsion? Not every idea promising a revolutionary concept actually is feasible. A collection of ideas classified as "non-issues" by the ACT.

Pulsar Navigation

Could the tracking of characteristic signals from pulsars be used as a novel concept of spacecraft navigation?

Pioneer Anomaly

Different dedicated and non-dedicated missions to test the anomalous accelaration of the Pioneer spacecraft have been investigated.
