Welcome Young Graduates!
| |
|
WHY |
 |
 |
| |
The
Young Graduate Trainee Scheme offers you, as recently qualified
men and women, a one year training contract designed to give
you your first job experience and to prepare you for future
employment in industry. |
| |
|
WHERE at ESA can
YGTs work?
|
 |
 |
| |
Working
in one of ESA’s establishments: ESTEC,
the European Space and Technology Center in the Netherlands,
ESOC,
the European Space Operations Center in Germany, ESRIN,
ESA Center in Italy or ESA
HQ in Paris, also offers
you the opportunity of working in an international and multicultural
environment. |
| |
|
WHAT kind of work
can YGTs do at ESA?
|
 |
 |
| |
Young
Graduate training contracts cover all ESA activities.
Each year, the Agency reviews its hosting possibilities and
the type of work that can be entrusted to young graduate trainees.
As a trainee, you will be part of a team under the supervision
of an experienced specialist. The training period has a strong
practical dimension. You will be assigned to specific tasks
according to the technical knowledge you acquired at university,
your area of specialization and your particular field of interest.
|
| |
|
WHO can apply?
|
 |
 |
| |
The
YGT Scheme is open to recently qualified young men and women
who are nationals of one of the 15 ESA member states (Austria,
Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy,
the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland
and the UK) or Canada as a cooperating state.
You will have completed a higher education
course normally in a technical or scientific subject at
a university or equivalent institute. Your degree or diploma
will testify to at least 4 or 5 years of study in addition
to secondary education.
You will also be able to speak either
English or French, the official languages of the Agency.
|
| |
|
WHAT are the working
conditions? |
 |
 |
| |
You
will have a one-year, non-renewable contract.
During your time as a YGT, you will
be considered to be an ordinary staff member and will need
to comply with a number of ESA rules and regulations. These
will be pointed out to you before you sign your letter of
appointment.
|
|
You will receive:
 |
monthly remuneration according
to the Coordinated organizations’ salary scale; |
 |
monthly expatriation allowance
if you are not resident in the country to which you
are posted plus an installation allowance upon arrival; |
 |
travel fees for yourself, and also
for your spouse and children if they are residing with
you throughout your contract, upon taking up and ceasing
duties; |
 |
2.5 days paid leave per month over
your training period; |
 |
health cover under the ESA Social
Security scheme. |
|
|
You will submit an end-of-training period
report on your activities to the various parties concerned.
At the end of your training period,
while subsequent employment is not guaranteed, you may apply
for vacant permanent posts at ESA. Applications will be
assessed and put through the Agency’s normal selection procedures.

|
HOW to become a YGT
|
 |
 |
| |
|
|
Candidates are short-listed
on the basis of qualifications and taking into account the
hosting opportunities available that particular year in
the Agency's various Establishments. If you are short-listed,
you will be invited to attend an interview in the Establishment
concerned.
Recommendations for assignments follow
the interview process. ESA makes every attempt to ensure
adequate representation of nationalities while taking into
account the various fields of activity of the Agency.
If you are selected for a YGT post,
you will first need to pass a medical examination with your
own doctor and obtain a certificate from the Agency's medical
officer showing that you satisfy the required physical fitness
conditions before taking up duties. Usually you will take
up your duties within 3 months of being offered a place
on the YGT scheme.
