A Holistic Approach to Facility Management in Line with ISO standards

In recent years, the adoption by organisations of sound corporate management processes has seen exponential growth. In an increasingly uncertain world, there is a moral and ethical imperative to ensure that the welfare or employees is safeguarded, that commitments to reducing environmental impacts are reduced, and that the future of the business is secured should the unthinkable happen.

At ESA, and particularly  at ESRIN, ensuring workplace safety, environmental impact mitigation, and business continuity is paramount. Accordingly, the ESRIN Estates and Facility Management Service has strived to implement an integrated corporate management system processes fully in line with ISO standards, and to implement these standards relying on a coordinated, streamlined and holistic approach.

Indeed, this approach is very much in line with the trend in implementing corporate management processes. According to the Business Continuity Institute, Business Continuity Management is “an holistic management process that identifies potential threats to an organization and the impacts to business operations that those threats, if realized, might cause, and which provides a framework for building organizational resilience with the capability for an effective response.” True business continuity will ensure continued site operations in the event of an incident or crisis situation, prioritising health and safety, safe-guarding assets, and ensuring a continued commitment to environmental responsibility.

ESRIN was certified to the ISO 14001 environmental management and OHSAS 18001 health & safety management standards in 2010, the ISO 50001 in 2013, and will seek the ISO 22301 business continuity standard in November of 2017.
