Landing a spacecraft on Earth or a space probe on Saturn’s moon Titan (as seen here), is just like dropping a potato crisp into a bag. The German company HTG Hyperschall Technologie Göttingen found the solution through modelling, simulation and calculation as well as advanced measurement, which were developed while working on ESA projects, and was able to develop a crisps-bag-filling-system for Rovema. Integrating this technology originating from space into their new filling machine enabled the company to do the packaging 30 to 50 % faster than before.
For this achievement among others, HTG Hyperschall Technologie Göttingen was awarded ESA's ‘Space Spin-Off’ 2009 prize for its outstanding performance in the area of ‘space to non-space technology transfer’.
