On Sunday 10 November 2002 at 01:04 GMT, Belgian ESA astronaut Frank De Winne touched Earth onboard a Soyuz capsule after an 11-day space mission to the International Space Station.
This programme provides an overview of the Odissea mission and its highlights, using footage recorded on Earth and in space, spanning the time from last launch preparations on 30 October to the arrival of the crew back in Star City, in the afternoon of 10 November.
The programme comprises of a 8-minute A-roll with split tracks (clean international sound and commentary) and is complemented by a B-roll of additional inflight footage.
ODISSEA MISSION SUMMARY
In the early hours of Wednesday morning on the 30th October a new spacecraft, the Soyuz TMA-1 waited on a launchpad in Baikonur ready to take a 3-person crew to the ISS. During the hours leading up to launch the crew comprising of ESA Astronaut Frank De Winne, Mission Commander Sergei Zaletin and flight engineer Yuri Lonchakov, underwent final launch preparations.
Belgian astronaut Frank de Winne spoke of his upcoming mission during which he became the first Belgian to visit the ISS and the first ESA astronaut to work in both the Russian and American modules.

The crew gave a final wave before entering the Soyuz spacecraft at the start of their 11-day mission, named Odissea after the ancient adventurer Odysseus. Despite poor weather conditions the Soyuz launched successfully at 04:11 GMT witnessed by a crowed of spectators.
