    NASA astronaut Timothy Kopra

    ISS Expedition 20 Flight Engineer

    This will be NASA astronaut Timothy Kopra’s first space mission. Born on 9 April 1963, Kopra is married and has two children.

    Kopra has an extensive military career starting from 1985, which included active service and as an experimental test pilot. Kopra was assigned to NASA at the Johnson Space Center in September 1998 as a vehicle integration test engineer. He was selected as an astronaut in July 2000.

    Kopra began training for a long-duration spaceflight in July 2005. He will be launched to the ISS with Space Shuttle flight STS-127, the next ISS assembly mission, and will return with STS-128, currently scheduled for launch in August.

    Kopra replaced Expedition 20 Flight Engineer Koichi Wakata who returned to Earth on the descent leg of the STS-127 flight. Kopra was replaced on on the Expedition 20 crew by Nicole Stott. He returned to Earth on 12 September with the STS-128 crew.
