In order to access you need to have the following hardware and software configuration:

• A PC running Windows 95 (you can also use an Apple Macintosh or a UNIX workstation).
• A 17" monitor with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels and 256 colours is recommended (although most screens should be displayed well with a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels).
• A WWW browser such as Netscape or Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Optional: Microsoft Excel (for report generation).

can be used with any WWW browser, which supports frames and JavaScript. Extensive tests are performed against the following browser releases:

• Netscape 3.01 (previous ESA standard)
• Netscape 4.5 (current ESA standard - download from here [14.6 MB] or directly from Netscape).
• Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01(download release 4.01 with service pack 2 from Microsoft ;some general notes on Internet Explorer updates can be found here).
• Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 (download release 5.01 from Microsoft).

Some general notes on preferences and browser installation:

• Helpers: You should have Helper applications defined for a number of MIME-types such as PDF (application/pdf), and Excel (application/msexcel). If these are not defined, you will be required to "pick an application" once a file of one of these types is transferred to your computer.
• Cookies: use ‘cookies’ to store information about the current session on your PC; if a message comes up that requests you to accept a cookie to be created - do so; otherwise, you will need to log in before every interaction. Note that the cookie contains only your current session identifier; it will be deleted when you quit. These cookies do not pose any security threat to your computer.
• JavaScript. Enable JavaScript.
• Java. Enable Java

Netscape 3.0x Settings

Please ensure that in Netscape the following preferences (Preferences are set in the Options menu) are set:

• General Preferences - Helpers: You should have Helper applications defined for a number of MIME-types.
• Network Preferences – Cache settings: You must set the Cache settings to Verify Documents Every Time.
• Network Preferences – Protocol: Under ‘Show an Alert before…’ disable "Accepting a Cookie" .
• Network Preferences – Languages: Enable Java and JavaScript.
• Security Preferences – General: Disable ‘Submitting a Form Insecurely’ (under ‘Show an Alert Before…).

Netscape 4.0x and 4.5 (and later) Settings

Ensure that you use Netscape 4.03 or later (preferably Netscape 4.5). In menu Edit, select Preferences:

• Navigator – Applications. Ensure you have the required Helper applications installed (PDF reader etc.).
• Under Advanced, enable JavaScript and Java, and under Cookies "Accept all cookies".
• Advanced – Cache. Select under "Document in cache is compared to document on network": "Every time".

Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 and 5.01 Settings

Verify that you have set-up IE correctly; go to View…Internet Options. Then, click the following tabs:

• General. Under Temporary Internet Files, click the Settings button. Under "Check for newer pages of stored pages" select the check box "Every visit to the page".
• Security. Click on "Settings" (expert users) to enable the following features: Scripting – Scripting of Java Applets: "Enable". Miscellaneous – Submit non-encrypted form data: "Enable".
• Advanced. Under Security – Cookies, enable "Always accept cookies"
