The 2017 course was hosted by the Sapienza University of Rome and took place in Rome, Italy from 4 - 15 September 2017.

During the two-week course, participants attend intensive lectures and seminars given by leading university professors and space industry practitioners concerning the international and domestic legal and policy frameworks governing space activities and applications. The main objective of the Summer Course is to stimulate participants’ interest in this particular field of law and policy and to provide them with a basic, solid knowledge upon which to build or enhance their professional career or carry out further academic research. During the course participants have the opportunity to meet highly qualified experts, to learn from their experience and to visit the premises of companies operating in the space industry or intergovernmental bodies.

The 2017 course had 42 participants and 4 tutors, representing 23 nations. It took place at 6 locations; Sapienza University, Thales Alenia, ESA ESRIN, Italian Space Agency (ASI), UNIDROIT and Telespazio. We also had 46 speakers, including the; Director of UN OOSA, President of ASI and the President of Sapienza University. Rome was a fantastic city, made even better by the hospitality of Sapienza University and the help we had from our local organizers.

The ECSL would like to thank all involved, and express its gratitude to Sapienza Univeristy, Thales Alenia, ASI, UNIDROIT, Telespazio and ESA for their support
