Inaugurating the third phase of ESA’s History Project, our Space History Conference is taking place in Padua, Italy, on 23-24 November 2017.

Welcomed by ESA Director General Jan Woerner and President of the Italian space agency ASI Roberto Battiston, the conference will feature a number of high-level speakers from Europe and beyond, including a message from ESA astronaut Paolo Nespoli on the International Space Station!

The speakers include John Krige (Georgia Institute of Technology, Chair of the ESA History Project Academic Council), Roger-Maurice Bonnet (former ESA Science Programme Director), Isabelle Sourbès-Verger (CNRS), Doug Millard (Science Museum, London) Claire Mays (Institut Symlog de France) and Alexander Geppert (New York University), as well as authors Luc van den Abeelen (Spaceplane HERMES) and Anne de Floris (Human Spaceflight, the European trajectory), among many others.

In addition to these experts, the young scholars who were successful in the call for contributions are invited to present their papers, and the winner of the competition for best paper will be announced.

The conference will address a wide range of topics, as well as space law and policy, and is bound to be an excellent opportunity to learn more about the history of mankind's venture into the space age from an interdisciplinary perspective. Please see the latest programme here.
