ESA / Applications / Navigation

ESA would like to see tenders for non-transport related uses of its navigation satellite systems EGNOS and eventually Galileo. Innovations should improve safety or security and be of benefit to the public.

Satellite navigation has been used in: Agriculture, forestry, fishery, construction, maintenance of roads and canals, surveying, mapping, environment protection, emergency services, object tracking, personal mobility, law enforcement, precision timing and continuous monitoring of geophysical variables.

The chosen application(s) should be ready for operational use in the time frame 2004 to 2008 and should hold potential for revenue-generation. Ultimately, they will be required to provide service guarantees or comparable qualities, as they will be offered by GALILEO and/or GPS/EGNOS.

The Invitation to Tender is being issued under the ARTES 5 programme rules and is for companies or organisations in the ESA Member States. The budget earmarked for this development is EUR 2 000 000.

Tenders should quote ESA reference AO/1-4218/02/NL/GS and reach the Agency no later than 30 September 2002. More information can be found on the ESA EMITS service. If your company/organisation does not have access to EMITS, please contact the Contract Officer, Mrs. G. Stjernevi.
