With both public and commercial satellite data playing key roles in assessing progress on climate action, ESA and GHGSat are supporting the United Nations Environment Programme’s new International Methane Emissions Observatory. Copernicus Sentinel-5P’s high revisit rate combined with GHGSat’s high-resolution commercial imagery can give landfill operators and regulators the information they need to reduce methane emissions from landfill sites, for example. Both missions support the new International Methane Emissions Observatory. This image shows methane from an opencast coal mine in Kazakhstan on 20 October 2021, measured by GHGSat.
