The following experiments are part of a fan-spreading aesthetic video project on the border between natural science, art and music, whereby chemical and physical experiments in the material-saving microscale and associative beautiful nature photos form a harmonious unit along with suitable classical music. The purpose of the project is to show people, who have not been so much in contact with science, how fantastic subjects as chemistry, biology and physics can be. The specialized scientific background steps back in favour of completely new innovative audiovisual experience.

Some of the experiments were conducted in petri dishes on an overhead projector in transmitted light. The area around the petri dish was covered and the Fresnel lens had been removed in order to protect the video camera. All other experiments were recorded in a completely normal way, even the selfluminous ones (i.e. fluorescence, flames, and plasma balls).

Using suitable common software for digital video treatment many effects are possible:

  • Accurate adjustment of the speed of the experiment to the beat of the music
  • Time lapse shots of long lasting experiments (oscillations, crystallizations)
  • Sweep magnification to reinforce effect (wavering fogs or flames)
  • Coloured adjustment, contrast reinforcement, repetitions and cross fades.
