The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) will be hosted in Geneva, Switzerland, from the 10th to the 12th on December 2003. The Second Session of this majour event will be held in Tunis, Tunisia in 2005, aiming at developing “a common vision and understanding of the information society” among the whole Information Society stakeholders (e.g. international and non-governamental organisations, civil society, private sector etc.) in order to bridge the digital divide.
 
Participation of TM-Alliance consortium
 
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the World Health Organisation (WHO), within TM-Alliance partnership, will actively participate together with other specialised UN agencies like the UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) and the WTO (World Trade Organisation (WTO).
 
 
The Summit participants will be given the opportunity to debate on the challenges imposed by the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and agreeing on use of suitable means to reduce disparities between countries benefiting from the digital revolution and those with constraingths to do so..
 
 
International Impact
 
Eventually, Heads of States and Governments are expected to reiterate their support to Information Society’s build-up and the use of new technologies byadopting a Declaration of Principles, as well as a Plan of Action, thus demonstrating the highest political commitment in promoting the access of all countries to information, knowledge and communication.
