- Description
In preparation for his second mission to the International Space Station, ESA astronaut Thomas Pesquet is training for possible spacewalks at NASA’s Johnson Space Center. His second six-month mission is called Alpha and will see Thomas launch as part Crew-2 on the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft with NASA astronaut Megan Behnken and Shane Kimbrough and Japanese astronaut Aki Hoshide.
On 15 December 2020 ESA Thomas had a session training on Robotics at NASA’s Johnson Space Cetner in Houston, USA.
The 16-m long Canadian Space Agency robotic arm on the Station is used to grab and berth cargo vessels such as Japan’s HTV and the US Dragon and Cygnus. They can also help astronauts during spacewalks or even replace a spacewalk altogether.
