- Description
In preparation for his second mission to the International Space Station, ESA astronaut Thomas Pesquet is training to be ready for launch. His second six-month mission is called Alpha and will see Thomas launch as part Crew-2 on the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft with NASA astronaut Megan Behnken and Shane Kimbrough and Japanese astronaut Aki Hoshide.
Thomas and Aki are familiarising themselves with the tools and equipment they will need on a spacewalk. A spacewalk often lasts for six hours and needs to be thought through in detail, each minute is choreographed. Every detail, down to the order in which tools and equipment are attached to the astronaut’s suits is worked-out in advance.
The tools are all strapped together so they don’t float away and kept inside a clear box during the spacewalk itself.
