Photonic Neurons: Spiking Information Processing with Lasers

This talk will present a novel approach for using lasers to emulate neural activity. I will give an overview of the subject and outline the experimental results which show the first steps towards a photonic system capable of mimicking biological neuron behaviour at ultra-fast speeds. The potential of the system for neuromorphic computing applications will also be highlighted.
