The EUV Imaging Spectrometer (EIS) on-board JAXA’s Hinode (a solar mission with ESA participation), saw first light on October 28 and immediately began taking ‘spectroscopic imaging’ data, such as those shown in this image.
EIS is a telescope designed to measure how fast gases travel in the solar atmosphere.
